Mason Jar Fairy Lanterns
Fill mason jars with fairy lights for warm, portable lanterns that line pathways, tables and steps. One of the easiest wins for evening event ambience.
Materials
- Mason / jam jars (6–10)
- Battery fairy-light strings (1 per jar)
- Twine, lace or ribbon (1 roll)
- Greenery sprigs (optional) (1 bunch)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Collect Your Jars
Gather clean mason or jam jars in a mix of sizes. Remove labels for a clear glow.
Optional Frosting
For a softer glow, lightly brush the inside with frosted-glass spray or watered-down PVA and let dry.
Add Decoration
Wrap twine, lace or ribbon around the neck, or tuck a sprig of greenery inside for a natural look.
Coil in the Lights
Drop a battery fairy-light string into each jar, coiling the wire so bulbs are spread evenly.
Hide the Battery Pack
Tuck the battery pack just under the rim or tape it to the underside of the lid so it's hidden.
Place & Glow
Line jars along paths, steps, tables or window ledges and switch on at dusk.
Safety Notes
Use battery LED fairy lights only inside sealed jars. Place jars where they won't be knocked into walkways.
