Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I start planning?

For larger events like weddings or big milestone parties, most people in New Zealand start six to twelve months ahead so they can lock in popular venues and suppliers, who often book out well in advance over summer and the December party season. Smaller gatherings can usually be pulled together in four to eight weeks. Our free planning checklist breaks the tasks down by timeline so nothing gets missed.

How can I keep the cost down?

The biggest savings usually come from doing some of the styling yourself, choosing an off-peak date or day, and being flexible on the venue. DIY décor such as balloon garlands, backdrops and centrepieces can dramatically cut costs, and our step-by-step tutorials show you how. Use the budget calculator to set a realistic total, then split it across venue, catering, décor and the extras.

Do I need to hire professional suppliers or can I DIY?

It is entirely up to you and your budget. Many hosts mix both: they DIY the decorations and styling, then hire professionals for the things that are hard to do well yourself, such as catering, photography or a marquee. Browse our supplier directory for trusted New Zealand businesses, and our DIY tutorials for everything you would rather make yourself.

How do I request a quote from a supplier?

Open any supplier profile in our directory and use the “Request a Quote” form to send them your event date, guest numbers and what you need. Your enquiry goes straight to the business so they can reply with pricing and availability. It is free to enquire, and you can shortlist your favourites to compare later.
